To apply scroll down to Step 4 to fill in the form, but please read previous steps first.
Step One – Check Eligibility
Student membership is open to those who are not practising and are currently in the process of achieving a qualification relevant to animal behaviour at FHEQ Level 4 or above, with the intention of becoming an Animal Behaviour Technician or Clinical Animal Behaviourist. The APBC does not support student members seeing behaviour cases, as they have not yet demonstrated that they have achieved all the required Knowledge and Understanding to ensure efficacy, animal welfare standards and due care of the owners seeking help.
Please note: that if you are currently practising as a behaviourist, you are NOT eligible for student membership. However, you are invited to apply for Provisional CAB or ABT membership via the APEL route which may be more appropriate for you at this stage of your educational journey.
Step Two – Read APBC Code of Practice
All Student members must abide by the APBC Code of Practice. Please ensure you have read this and agree to this before proceeding with your application.
Step Three – Download Student course details form
Get this form signed by your course Head of Department. Once the form is completed and signed please scan or take a photo of the form and have the digital copy ready. Proceed to step four where you can upload your completed Student course form.
Step Four – Complete Application Form
Step Five – Application Approval
Please DO NOT send payment until your membership application has been approved. We will invoice you for student membership.
Once we have received your complete application, it will be reviewed at the next membership committee meeting. This committee meets fortnightly. Please be aware that, depending on when you submit, it may be 2-3 weeks before you are notified as to the success or otherwise of your application. If you are not successful, we will advise what you need to do next to become a successful candidate.
