Sezan discusses some of the common sources of frustration in ‘a day in the life’ of a shelter dog.
Specifically, this short talk focuses on practical handling and training tips to help recognise and reduce frustration and associated ‘problem’ behaviours / unwanted learning outcomes when interacting with shelter dogs in off lead training sessions, with the long-term goal of adaptation to a home.
This talk is specially targeted at those working or volunteering with shelter dogs, though advice will be relevant and to anyone working with easily frustrated companion dogs and their carers.
Presenter Bio:
As a Certified Clinical Animal Behaviourist, over the last 15 years Sezan Öz has worked with Universities, Animal Welfare Organisations and owners in the UK and beyond. She’s passionate about turning evidence-based theory into practical, effective tools for everyday life with dogs.
Sezan offers consultancy work through Öz Dogs, supporting shelter dogs and staff with a range of behaviour and training related needs, as well as helping companion dogs and their people in homes.
Outside of work Sezan keeps busy building a strong working partnership and foundations with her young sports dog Remedy the Malinois and enjoys adventures and fun with Vice the Schipperke. She takes aspects of sports dog training into functional, everyday skills for companion dogs and their carers.
