Behaviour professionals carefully evaluate training history, environment, and emotional state when assessing animals. Yet one critical factor influencing their world is frequently overlooked: how sound triggers behaviour.
Dogs and cats experience sound at frequencies and sensitivities far beyond human hearing, meaning everyday environments may contain auditory triggers that influence stress, vigilance, and behavioural response.
This presentation explores how sound environments and hearing health shape emotional regulation and behavioural outcomes in dogs and cats. Participants will gain insight into how auditory awareness can reveal hidden stressors, inform behaviorual assessment, and support welfare-centered interventions.
Janet Marlow’s innovative research in animal hearing and acoustic environments will introduce practical ways behaviour professionals can incorporate sound awareness into their work to support calmer animals and more effective behaviour outcomes.

Presenter Bio:
Janet Marlow, M.A., Certified Sound Behaviorist Founder, Pet Acoustics Inc.
Janet Marlow is a global pioneer in animal hearing health and the founder of Pet Acoustics Inc.
