Presentation Details:

This presentation by Dr. Risë VanFleet highlights key concepts from her recently released book, Embracing the Animal’s Perspective. Designed to help people living with companion animals understand them more accurately, this volume provides clearly-described ideas and skills that build healthier, happier human-animal relationships and understanding. It includes many examples with dogs, cats, and horses. In her APBC presentation, Dr. VanFleet will discuss the “Five E’s” that represent the primary sections of the book: Expectations (understanding), Empathy (acceptance), Exploration (motivation), Empowerment (agency, consent), and Enthusiasm (enjoyment, play, and social relationships). Risë will also describe how this book can be used with behaviour and training clients to strengthen their understanding, success, and satisfaction.
