Donna is a Certified Clinical Animal Behaviourist. She was
originally from Austin, Texas. She set up
behavioural consultancies in Texas,
Copenhagen, Brussels, Madrid and Hong Kong prior to moving to
Scotland. She is lecturer in MSc Applied Animal Behaviour and
Animal Welfare
at the University of Edinburgh and behaviour counsellor for the
Royal (Dick)
College of Veterinary Studies. Donna has special interest in
welfare and the ethics
of pet ownership and behavioural therapy. She has an interest
in the
interaction of various species as she has three horses, a flock
of Shetland sheep, 4 ferrets, five cats and three dogs. |

Vice Chairman:
Claire Guest

Claire started at the charity, Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, in
1987 as an assistant trainer. As Operations Director she is responsible
for all canine aspects of the charity’s work in the UK, including
selection and assessment of dogs, socialisation, training and behaviour
modification, matching of dogs to recipients, placement and aftercare.
She became a member of the APBC in 1992 and was elected as Chair
in 2000. She has been very involved in gundog competitions especially
with Spaniels, competing with Working Cockers at a National Level
and endeavouring to develop new methods of training in this field.

David Appleby
|
David has been in practice as a pet behaviour counsellor since
1986. He is based at the Pet Behaviour Centre in Worcestershire,
England,
in addition to which he holds veterinary referral clinics in Birmingham,
Derby, Leicester, Northampton, and Nottingham.
David is one of the first pet behaviour counsellors to be certified
by the Association for the Study of Animal Behaviour, a new registration
and certification scheme launched in 2003.
He is the visiting behaviour counsellor at Queens Veterinary School
at Cambridge University, where he also lectures on the subject
to students.
David is active within the profession generally and is Honorary
Secretary for the Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors and
membership secretary for the BSAVA affiliated Companion Animal
Behaviour Therapy Study Group.
He is a frequent lecturer at home and overseas, contributes to
a number of journals and lectures on the postgraduate diploma/MSc
course for pet behaviour counselling at Southampton University.
He will be familiar to many in England as the author of a series
of client orientated behaviour booklets stocked by veterinary practices
and 'Ain't Misbehavin' - a good behaviour guide for family dogs'
(Broadcast Books). |

Secretary: Claire Hargrave

Claire is a Certified Clinical Animal Behaviourist and qualified from the School of Psychology at the University of Southampton with a Master of Science degree in Companion Animal Behaviour Counselling. Claire has worked in veterinary practice for 27 years. She is practising in Carmarthenshire and taking companion animal behaviour referrals from veterinary practices throughout Wales. Claire runs a purpose built practice with seminar facilities on a 100 acre holding where she is currently developing a specialist equine unit. |

Veterinary Representative: Gwyn Egginton

Gwyn graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in London in 1979. She worked in mixed general practice for eight years, and continued to work as a veterinary surgeon in small animal practice until recently. She has always been fascinated by animal behaviour and latterly specialised in that branch of veterinary medicine.
She set up her behaviour referral service in 2003, and now works full time as a behaviourist, seeing dogs and cats. She has a special interest in the link between pain and behaviour.
She has owned horses, one of which competed up to medium level dressage, rabbits and guinea pigs, as well as dogs and cats. Currently she own a Jack Russell terrier and an elderly cat. |

Pippa Hutchison

Pippa Hutchison qualified from the School of Psychology at the University of Southampton with a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Companion Animal Behaviour Counselling. She also holds a post-graduate diploma in Companion Animal Behaviour Counselling (Dip (AS) CABC) and is a full Member of the Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors (APBC). Since 2004 she has been in practice as a companion animal behaviour counsellor holding veterinary referred consultations throughout Scotland and a behaviour consultant at the University of Glasgow, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine.
She has been a speaker at the University's Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Cat's Life series; at Edinburgh's FAB feline CPD Behavioural Development of (Typical) Kittens and a presenter on BBC Radio Scotland's Basic Instinct series (cats).
Also a speaker at Glasgow University's Master of Veterinary Public Health (MVPH) Programme, where she has been involved from its inception. Her role in this programme is to discuss the public health benefits of human-animal interaction and the concepts of interdependency (human-animal bond) at all levels.
Previously as Managing Director of Veterinary Business Development Ltd (VBD), publishers of Veterinary Times, The Veterinary Business Journal, VNTimes and the Henston Range she has been affiliated with the veterinary profession all her working life.
Working as a volunteer behaviour assessor at Wood Green Animal Shelter, Huntingdon, provided her with invaluable practical experience in handling dogs. Each dog was assessed and recommendations made as to the most suitable home environment or whether the dog was unsuitable for rehoming.
She keeps abreast of knowledge in the rapidly developing area of behavioural science as a member of: The Feline Advisory Bureau (FAB); The Society for Companion Animals Studies (SCAS); the Companion Animal Behaviour Therapy Study Group (CABTSG) which is affiliated to the British Small Animal Veterinary Association (BSAVA); and is also a full member of the Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors (APBC).
She has interacted with animals from birth, as her Grandparents ran a boarding kennels and cattery (which also accepted rescue animals). She is currently guardian of a horse, dog (Miniature Schnauzer) and kitten (British Short Hair). |

Emma Magnus

Emma is a Clinical Animal Behaviourist and a member of the Association
of Pet Behaviour Counsellors. She has been practising since 1995
when she qualified with a degree in Zoology and a Masters degree
in Applied Animal Behaviour and Animal Welfare. She has run monthly
referral clinics at veterinary practices within East Anglia and North
London since 1996 seeing owners of dogs, cats and rabbits
Emma was a regular contributor to each of BBC1’s Barking Mad
series and is Features Editor of the small livestock journal Fur & Feather.
She also has a regular ‘Rabbits on the Couch’ column
within Rabbiting On, the journal of the Rabbit Welfare Fund, and
is co-founder of the Rabbit
Behaviour Advisory Group . |

Treasurer:
David Ryan
|
David has been a police dog handler for twenty-five years and an instructor for twelve. He has handled and trained dogs from forty-five kilo German Shepherds to five kilo Cocker Spaniels, entered police dog trails and performed public demonstrations. Still working full time for Cumbria Police, he is responsible for dog selection and breeding, and all aspects of dog and handler training involving tasks as varied as detecting cash, drugs and explosives through to firearms response. He currently works with a German Shepherd police dog called Belle. He also conducts behaviour consultations, dog training and puppy classes on veterinary referral
He holds Southampton University’s postgraduate diploma in Companion Animal Behaviour Counselling, with distinction, and is a member of the Companion Animal Behaviour Therapy Study Group and the Association for the Study of Animal Behaviour.
David’s particular interest is in inherited canine predatory motor patterns and the lengths that pet dogs will go to find a way to express them, usually despite their owners’ best efforts. |

Overseas representative:
Jolanda Pluijmakers |
Jolanda holds a post-graduate diploma in Companion Animal Counselling.
She is the only Dutch member of the Association of Pet Behaviour
Counsellors and runs clinics at the Animal Behaviour Clinic in Maastricht
and several veterinary practices in the Netherlands. She is conducting
a PhD project into the behavioural development of the dog at the
Anthrozoology Institute of the University of Bristol.

Administrator:
Pauline Appleby
|
Pauline Appleby is the APBC Administrator and runs the APBC office
on a part-time basis. She began as treasurer back in 1989 when the APBC
was formed, and became Adminstrator when the organisation grew big enough
to require a permanent office situation a short while later.
By profession Pauline is a freelance conference and events organiser and is also
involved in publishing and marketing, all via her company Interface
Event Management & PR Ltd. She is an Associate Member of the Chartered
Insitute of Marketing (DipM ACIM).
Her somewhat eclectic career began as a Guide Dog Trainer before her twin boys arrived fifteen years ago and changed the course of her life yet again!
